Developer Commentary
August has been busier than normal. The start of the month saw the very first submission of an “Umsatzsteuer voranmeldung”(not the most exciting topic). Weeks two and three saw significant changes to privacy and analytics. Week four saw the introduction of a new navigation bar, settings menu, and a bunch of new pages to FairFareFinder!
Privacy and analytics overhauls
This involved creating a serverside analytics platform that:
- Doesn’t give information to Google
- Helps identify bots(and there is an incredible amount of them!)
- Gives an insight into actual human sessions whilst keeping the user anonymous
Note: Google Analytics is setup on fairfarefinder and meetonarrival, but it only collects information if you accept the analytics cookie.

Cookies also got an update!
- New cookie policy
- New cookie banner
- Added the ability to choose how long your settings are saved on your device. This currently only applies to Origin City, but may be expanded to other settings in the future. An example of the setting in desktop is shown below
There’s a new way to navigate!
It took longer than it should have, but the previous, hacky navigation menu has been replaced with a slightly better hacky navigation menu 
There’s a bunch of new pages!
FairFareFinder finally got a bit bigger. Premier League Weather and Bundesliga Weather pages show forecast information for each game of the season. “Where is Hot?” is a new section that aims to more clearly answer the very simple question of “Where is hot in month X, that I can reach from city Y”.
I would love a bit of feedback on those pages in particular - what is working, what isn’t working, what doesn’t make sense

- Share pages made significantly faster through template precompiling, buffering and coordinate caching.
- Perfect Weather pages made faster and filter choices simplified.
- Weather of the Week made much faster, with core data stored in memory.
- Mobile sort controls improved, disappearing while scrolling down and returning when scrolling up.
- New 404 page and better handling of invalid cities on the landing page.
- About page updated to use the new navigation and footer.
- Privacy policy, cookie policy, terms and disclaimer updated.
- Fonts and icons moved away from external CDNs toward local files.
